Selection Process and Admission

After the application deadline, the selection committee reviews all the submitted applications. The selection committee consists of the chairpersons of the doctoral program, who may appoint up to three further members from other disciplines to guarantee that the composition of the selection committee reflects the applicant’s research focus.

Criteria for selection are the quality and feasibility of the dissertation project, the professional qualifications of the applicant and the willingness and ability to work on interdisciplinary issues in accordance with the profile of the ZMR.

Following the selection committee's decision, the academic coordinator of the ZMR notifies each applicant personally by e-mail whether their application was successful or not.

If an applicant has not yet reached an agreement with a supervisory team by the time the application deadline has passed, the selection committee will establish contact with possible supervisors. As soon as a supervision agreement has been reached, the successful applicant will be accepted into the doctoral program.
